A New Start

A New Start

After changing to a new context (company, project, team) it is much easier to start with a new approach. Old habits can be left behind and the experiences made in the old context which influence your mindset should be invalidated.

Context

You're a newcomer in an established team. You left your old context behind.

Problem

You have just switched your context but carry all the old habits and experiences with you. Your new environment may not be any better than your old one.

Solution

Start a new approach to becoming a better developer. Reevaluate
Act as fresh inspiration for the new team. Look at the team as an outsider and evaluate their approaches. Reflect critically on your previous work and yourself in the old context. Select especially worthy aspects you'd like to improve.

Forces

  • new environments put a lot of stress onto an individual, therefore one often resolves to known habits and solutions
  • your role
  • group dynamics
